Welcome to Swishspot

Ok here is my first blog, well after all it had to happen, I have a facebook why not a blog! Actually I think a blog is a better idea as facebook to me is a massive time waster and trouble maker. More about that later!

Here I plan to discuss a number of topics, obviously the ones I am interested in and have knowledge of.  Here is a list of topics I have on the agenda…

  • Web Design
  • Computers and Repairs
  • Arcade and Pinball Machines
  • Photography and Virtual Tours
  • Motorcycles
  • AFL Football
  • Employment
  • Music and Movies

One of the main things I wish to discuss here is Web Design, it is a passion of mine as I love to see the creations come alive and then put them out there for the world to see.

I have been web designing for over 10 years now and have pioneered in Virtual Tour technology which I combined with my web design skills. Here I wish to share some of the tricks and tips I have learned and to shortcut some of the steps to creating professional looking websites.

HTML knowledge is not essential these days but without it you are left short of customising elements of your design and if you rely upon one single program to build your website such as Front Page or Dreamweaver then you are locked in to only what they offer.

Flash is big these days and to learn Flash is quite a heavy task with a long learning curve, fortunately there are alternatives these days to assist in creating flash files without the daunting task associated with Flash itself, I will introduce you to some of these on this blog which will take some of the labour out of your web creations.

Photoshop skills are essential, even if basic just to create a presentable header but without photoshop you are at the mercy of templates and the stock images they provide. It’s amazing what you can do with a template and some photoshop skills these days.

Content Management Systems are gaining popularity with the best known and secure being Joomla. Being able to edit and update your website as you wish without needing to contact your web designer or stumble through alien code is a major advantage when dealing with Search Engines as the information is updated more regularly and feeds the Search Engines what they crave.

This is just a taste of what to expect here in the coming weeks.

Stay Tuned!
